There is a variant where the scythe is partially decorated with gold leaf.
In IRRLÆUFER ’s powerful linocut print „Ker, Tochter der NYX“, we encounter a mythological figure with an impressive presence. The depiction is raw, direct, and permeated with dark symbolism. Ker, one of the personified goddesses of death and daughter of the night (Nyx) in Greek mythology, is depicted here as a naked, self-confident woman with a wild mane of hair. In one hand, she holds a powerful, partially gilded scythe—a symbol of death and sovereignty—in the other the skeletal remains of a human being. Her posture is serene, almost dance-like, as if she were crossing the threshold between life and death.
Her nimbus in the background, a fragile yet present aura, underscores her superhuman origins. The contrast between black and white enhances the dramatic effect of the motif, while Ker’s stylized physicality emphasizes her sensual yet terrifying nature.
IRRLÆUFER succeeds in creating a picture of existential depth with minimal means. „Ker, Tochter der NYX“ is not only a work about death and transience, but also about power, femininity, and the inevitable. The portrayal is challenging—it provokes, confronts, and lingers long in the memory.
