In his work „Phobos“, the artist IRRLÆUFER creates a powerful visual allegory of fear and inner turmoil. The depiction of a headless, muscular body in Roman armor, with two ram heads resting on its shoulders, evokes associations with archaic power, sacrifice, and threat. At the center sits an anatomically detailed heart, lying in its open chest and hanging in its natural position—as if offered for sacrifice. The rams, symbolic of aggression and strength, form a grotesque armor that both protects and constrains.
The title „Phobos“, named after the Greek god of fear and son of Ares, refers to an emotional landscape of war, inner tension, and psychological distress. IRRLÆUFER combines classical aesthetics with modern symbolism, opening up a space for interpretations of war, masculinity, vulnerability, and loss of identity. The rough, high-contrast linocut print reinforces the impression of raw emotion and inner chaos.
„Phobos“ is more than a picture—it is a psychological portrait, a glimpse into the mask of the warrior who fights not only with external enemies, but above all with himself.
